On Monday evening there was an excellent turnout at Lowestoft Chess Club with the addition of some new members.
The first matches in this year's Club Championship were played between Club Captain Leon Hines and Barry Dugan and Eric Albrow and Mark Pooley. Both games were of an excellent standard and ended in draws.
The following game was recently played and Black resigned on the sixth move due to either being check mated or losing their Queen. 1. d4 g6; 2. Nd3 Bg7; 3. e4 d6; 4. Bc4 Nbd7; 5. Bxf7+ Kxf7; 6. Ng5+......if Black plays Kf6 then 7. Qf3 check mate, or if Black plays 6.......Kf8 then 7. Ne6+ and White wins Black's Queen, or if Black plays 6.....Ke8 then White plays 7. Ne6 and wins Black's Queen.
These games were good preparation for the new season which is only a few week's away now. The squad were looking much sharper and focused on the challenge which is lying ahead of them.
If you require more information about the Club then contact Mark Pooley on 01502 580802 or come along to the East Coasts friendliest Chess Club at The Sun Rise Inn, Corton Road, Lowestoft, on Monday evening between 7.15pm to 11pm, where a warm welcome awaits you, whether a beginner or a GrandMaster.
